Now that things have settled down...
Sorry for not giving you much details on my trip to China in my last email. Truth is I got inundated with a bunch of stuff right when I got back to Moscow. As if coming back to problems filing my taxes and having to fix my toilet wasnt bad enough, I found out two days after I got back that my landlord will be selling my apartment. Ive got a month to get out, thankfully, so be praying I can find a new place pretty soon. To top it all off a short-term mission trip from Denton that Im helping out had their project fall through and I had to find another one for them to do. Well, praise the Lord that the toilet is fixed, my taxes are filed and weve found an AWANAS camp for Denton team to work at. God is good.
Anyway, I had a great time in China. Our China teams national staff, Harry and Phillip came up to Beijing to pick me up from the airport and show me around the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. It was really fun to get to know Harry and Phillip, they were a big part of why I went to China since our team was thinking about hiring Russian staff. Getting to know those guys really our team make that decision when we hired our first Russian intern, Andrei Buryukov this last week.
When I got to Shanghai, I met up with Jimmy, the China team leader. Jimmy showed me around town and explained to me how ministry in China works. Jimmy works a lot with young professionals, like I do, and so it was encouraging to see how build relationships with them, introduce them to Christ and gradually graft them into the Chinese Church. I spent a couple of evenings at an English corner, where Jimmy meets many of the people he ministers to. I was amazed at how open the people were to talking about spiritual matters.
I feel like I came away with some great experiences and some new ideas for ministry from my trip. I hope that our young professionals group can also learn how to come in contact with others introduce them Christ and graft them into the Church here in Russia. Pray that God would infect the young professionals that go to Moscow Bible Church with the same desire. Also, pray for Jimmy that he would continue to draw young professionals in Shanghai to himself and point them to Christ. Finally, dont for get to lift me up as I look for a new apartment this month.
