Picking up where they left off...
In college, coming home from missions trips I was anxious about what would happen to the people that I left behind. Would my new Christian friends grow? Would someone else reach out to the boys that we got to know while playing soccer?
A couple of weeks ago I was explaining the finer points of using the subway system in Moscow. We invited a group of ten student musicians to come and use their gifts and talents as a window to minister to people here in Moscow. It was a step of faith on our part as well as theirs. This trip that was the first we've hosted that worked solely here in Moscow, not to mention the first music group that we've had here in Russia. It took a tremendous amount of work, but God really blessed our step of faith.
Now the team's gone and I've been thinking. Is that was just here wondering the same thing I was back in college "will someone pick up where I left off?" This leads me to a sobering conclusion; the person left behind to do this is now me. Last week I was talking with some of the friends that we made during the trip and I was encouraged by the conversations that we had. One of the girls was even interested in attending church some time. Pray that I can pick things up where the team left off and pray that however he chooses that God would bring our new friends to faith.
So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.
