Embracing Change

Dear Friends and Family,

I dont believe Ive ever gone through so much change in my life! Not only am I back home after my first four-year term and getting married in a little less than a month, but my wife-to-be and I have finally decided to serve our next term in Austria. Ive hinted at it before, but we only just officially made the decision in the last few weeks. Liz and I actually announced our intentions to our office just before moving Lizs things down from Kansas City to Denton!

I can say that I am both sad to be leaving my friends and team back in Russia, but Im also excited to face the new challenges that lie ahead in Austria. In my last newsletter I explained why Liz and I were looking at changing fields, but for those of you who dont get my newsletters, I will summarize the reason why I feel God is calling Liz and I to Austria.

Ever since I studied German in college I have always had a heart for German- speaking people (Liz supports me in this and is willing to learn the German language and culture herself) Liz and I have a heart for benevolence ministry, and the opportunity to do refugee work in Austria excites us. We will continue to be able to do pastor and church leader training in surrounding countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and possibly Ukraine. We will continue to use our Russian language skills as many of the refugees are from areas like central Asia where Russian is spoken.

I hope that you will join Liz and me in praying as we prepare for this next step and as we make a home in Denton for a time. I hope we can talk with many of you while we are here in the States this next year.

Blessings, Matt
